Features

Sunfish is laying the foundation of a new mathematical platform for rendering; in our first release the Meridian feature list includes:

  • Displacement mapping
  • Bump mapping
  • Spectral transparency
  • Shadow-map shadows (with transparency and prefiltering)
  • True nonlinear 3D motion blur for rigid bodies
  • Support for polygons, NURBS, Subdivision Surfaces and Smooth Mesh Preview
  • Paint FX and Hair
  • Emitters and Instanced Geometry
  • Lambert, Blinn and Phong materials with textures and shading networks
  • Anisotropic tube shading for hair
  • Low and constant memory footprint (typically about 100 MB per thread)
  • Command-line interface for network rendering
  • Easy export and rendering of scenes with Meridian for Maya plug-in
  • Image viewer application to view renderings in progress

More features are under development and will be added in upcomming releases. A few important items are:

  • Shading language
  • Multi-threading (simultaneously render multiple tiles per image)
  • Depth of field
  • Particles
  • Soft-body motion blur
  • Global illumination (true reflections and refractions)
  • Ambient occlusion
  • Subsurface scattering

Serving the customer means listening to their feedback. We welcome any suggestions you might have regarding the priority of our development list.
